James Lovelock says climate change is unavoidable

In his 2006 book, The Revenge of Gaia: Why the Earth Is Fighting Back - and How We Can Still Save Humanity, geophysicist James Lovelock argues that global warming has passed a tipping point beyond which profound climate change is unavoidable. According to Lovelock, massive destruction of ecosystems, epidemics of hunger and disease, water scarcity, and even large-scale social collapses are no longer merely possible, they are inevitable. Lovelock calls for societies to adapt to global warming and prevent chaos by retreating from their current levels of development. At the same time, he argues for aggressive replacement of coal-fired power plants with nuclear reactors, arguing that the environmental risks are far outweighed by the benefits.
