The Encina Plant in Carlsbad, California is currently building a biosolids recycling facility that will burn methane released during wastewater treatment to generate electricity and dry solid wastes. Drying biosolids will reduce their volume by about 80%, or about 1,200 truck loads per year. The resulting pellets can be used as fertilizer or biofuel.
